The Story of Silent Night
The quaint little village of Oberndorf, Austria, resting snugly in the Barvarian mountainside, shivered through the long December night. A severe snow storm had been raging for three days and the wind had swept snow drifts across every narrow, winding road leading into the world. The single winding road through the town, the only one, showed only the tips of quaint little houses where parents and children were busy and eager with anticipation. It was Christmas eve of the year, 1818, and even the snow storm could not interfere with the preparations for this glorious season.
On the top of the hill, overlooking the peaceful homes of the village, stood the church with its spire still rising high above the white drifts. Lights shining through the windows still made a path of welcome to the house of God and told the villagers that Joseph Mohr, was in his study making final plans for the great Christmas service to be held the following day.
