The Story of Silent Night, cont.

Forgotten for nearly a year, the organ was again broken, and they sent for the repair man.  This time he could get through for there was no heavy snow storm.  After repairing the organ, the repairman asked Franz Gruber to play something to see if the organ was repaired properly. Franz remembered "Silent Night."

The repairman begged him for a copy of the song.  He took it over the mountains to his village and to the home of the Strasser sisters.  Their father was a music master and had taught his four daughters to sing in four part harmony.  Their father was thrilled with the song and taught it to his daughters.  They included it in their concerts as they traveled throughout Europe.  They were invited to sing in a great cathedral in Leipzig, Germany and added Silent Night to their program.  It was published in 1842.

There are many reasons why this carol is considered the best loved of all the carols but to those of us who love the Savior and know the power of His redeeming grace, it will always be a source of inspiration, lasting far beyond the Christmas season.
