Silent Night, cont.

Joseph Mohr continued to read on in the scriptures.  After thinking of the lowly shepherds silently kneeling in reverence with nothing to offer HIM but their love and devotion, he read on about the wise men--men from a different station in life altogether--how they brought rich gifts to Jesus.  they had traveled far and were laden with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  They inquired as they traveled, "Where is He that is born King of the Jews?"  For like the shepherds God had given them a heavenly sign--a star!  It moved across the sky guiding them on their journey.  Joseph Mohr marveled at their divine guidance to the Christ Child.

Feeling the need of God's guidance in his own life, he again took up his pen and began to write:

"Silent night, holy night.
Wondrous star, lend thy light,
In the East the wise men bring
Gifts of homage to their King,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth."
