Mrs. A. C. Mackey
written by Barbara Bond O'Kelley
after Mrs. Mackey's Home going

"Good Morning, Boys and Girls."

"Good Morning, Mrs. Mackey."

This was the greeting each morning at CBM Camp.

I know there are many of those "boys and girls" who will remember Mrs. Mackey and their camp days at places such as the YWCA camp in Athens,  GA, Rutledge, GA, and Crawfordville, GA.

Mrs. Mackey said "Goodnight" here on earth on March 12, 1991.  Then she said "Good morning" in Heaven.  What a glorious "homecoming" for her.

Mrs. Agnes C. Mackey--the Bible Lady--or "The John 3:16 Lady"

All of these were her titles given by boys and girls in the public schools of Georgia.

Mrs.  Mackey helped form the Children's Bible Mission in Florida in 1935.  She began her work in 1936, going into the schools with the Bible program and encouraging the boys and girls to memorize verses of scripture for awards--the biggest award--a free week at camp.

Her mission in life--to reach boys and girls for God.  She came to live in Athens in 1938 and visited schools all over Georgia.  All the boys and girls looked forward to her coming and telling Bible stories on flannel graph.  "Here comes the Bible lady" was the shout of many boys and girls who were privileged to hear her tell Bible stories.  Each morning we had a time set apart for quoting Bible verses we had memorized the night before.

In 1970, CBM decided to pull out of Georgia.  Mrs. Mackey, along with other interested people, formed an organization to continue the school programs in Georgia. This organization is known as the Now Generation Ministries.

Mrs. Mackey continued working actively until just a couple of years before her death.  She still was available to counsel people and tell them of God's love and care for them.

She loved all her boys and girls from over the years of mission work to them.  Many times she said to me, "I sure would like to see "my" boys and girls again before I go to be with the Lord."  She loved it so much when she would hear from one of them.

Her service to God will surely be rewarded to her in heaven.  She is greatly missed by all of us who worked so closely with her, but we know she is enjoying all the glories of heaven today.

In her memory, donations can be sent to Now Generation Ministries. This will be a living memorial to a wonderful lady who has blessed so many by her devotion to God and getting His word into the hearts of so many boys and girls--some who never heard the Word of God in any other way.
