"For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins
of many, shall appear a second time for salvation
without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
Hebrews 9:28

Open to the book of the Bible that gives instructions to the priests. Leviticus!

Who wrote this book?  Moses

In verse 1 who is speaking?  God who is HOLY!

What makes people afraid to meet God?  their sin

How did God make a way for sinners to come to Him without being afraid of Him?  Romans 6:23

What reminded people that Jesus would die for their sins in the days before He came and died?  animal offerings

In the first seven chapters of Leviticus God tells what kind of offerings He wanted, and since each of these offerings tells something about the Lord Jesus, they are very important.  One offering was not enough to tell all about Jesus so God gave them many offerings.

Leviticus 1: 3-- Burnt Offering--voluntary--without blemish--sweet savor (All burned for God)
This offering pictures Jesus as a willing sacrifice.

Leviticus 2:1--Meal Offering--In the meal offering were Fine flour--Oil--Frankincense--sweet savor.
Oil in the Bible pictures the Holy Spirit
This offering pictures Jesus in His Goodness!

Leviticus 3:1--Peace Offering (Part for God, part for priests--part for offerer and family and friends--sweet savor.
This offering shows that Jesus brings peace!

Leviticus 4:3--Sin Offering--Ignorance Lev. 4:2
--Jesus died for our sinful nature.  He was made sin for us.  Lev. 21  This offering was burned outside the camp all alone.
"My God, my God..."
This offering shows that Jesus took our punishment for our sins

Leviticus 6:6--Trespass Offering--Jesus paid our debt of sin.  Sins against God and man.  Need to restore one fifth but impossible!  This offering was offered outside the camp.
This offering reminds us that He paid it all!

The three sweet savor offerings were the Burnt Offering, the Meal Offering, and the Peace Offering.

So these offerings were made and people knew they were accepted and that they had pleased a holy God because the fire of God consumed them.

How do we know that God accepted the sacrifice of His Son for us?  Resurrection!

People had to bring these offerings over and over and over...but "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them..."  Hebrews 9:28

Notice God's order, and then ours!  God always starts with Himself...But to come to Him we must deal with ourselves.
